…installing the outdoor storage shed – part 2 of 2…
We are so excited to have the outdoor storage shed installed now and a place to put our smelly yard tools and machines that is safe and out of the house! What a great improvement over using the garage for everything!

It always seems to go like this… we buy something to solve a problem and it doesn’t quite fix it… so we end up spending more to make the solution work for us… but it never quite matches the vision we had at the beginning.
There are still some issues with the storage shed solution and we need to add a few tweaks to minimax it.
better storage to optimize space and maximize our productive time
For our storage shed, we have a lot of wasted space in the vertical domain, and the floor is totally covered with stuff in a big pile so we have to move everything around to get at an item in the back or on the bottom – ugh.

Fortunately we have our minimax systems to help solve an issue like this and fine tune our storage solution. The same shelf system we used in the garage to but our bins and make room for the metal lathe can be applied here to make room for more outdoor tools, gardening supplies, and miscellaneous stuff we don’t want in the garage anymore.
build a custom minimax shelf system tailor made to your stuff
If we use the 2×4 and OSB shelf solution like we have in the garage we can at least double the storage capacity of the shed. We used the same method to make room for the metal lathe in the garage and you can see how flexible the minimax system is on that post a while back.

For the shed, we have limited space, clearly, but we can still make some special adjustments to tighten up our tolerances on the space required to store our stuff. For example, the propane tanks take more room to put into place than they take up sitting on the shelf. (this is because you have to lean them to get under the 2×4 shelf support.
I realized that if I only secure the front of the OSB shelf, it can ‘bump-up’ in the back as the tank goes into place. This system gives us a few inches more vertical space to store stuff that would otherwise be wasted 99.999% of the time! The trick is not to weigh down that top shelf with any heavy stuff that will make the bump-up feature hard to use.

supercharging the outdoor storage shed to double capacity
Putting everything back into the shed is a dramatic difference. Now we don’t cover the floor with all the stuff anymore. We have plenty of room to move things around on the shelves as we optimize the space for whatever we put there.

Plus we have quick and easy access to everything so when it’s time to get into the shed and get something, we don’t spend extra time organizing and reorganizing to find it, pull it out, and put the other stuff back in place around it.
