Without commitment, you’ll never start, but more importantly, without consistency, you’ll never finish.
Denzel Washington
Are you regular? haha – sorry for silliness… I’ve been on a long weekend break and am getting back into the swing of things…
But seriously… taking a break got me thinking about how to keep my momentum… thus the inspirational quote and the title of this post. Consistency can be powerful – not only that – it can be a super power when you apply it to your minimax system!
Consistently using a system, regularly following it, and systematically evaluating what works and what doesn’t work are all part of the same path to maximizing your stuff and living a happy and productive life.
Consistency can be your super power!
We’ve talked about building a system for getting your stuff organized already. Now it’s time to expand on that a little bit. Just building a system isn’t enough.
Being a minimaxer goes much further than that. We have to set up a system and then follow it – every day – that’s consistency! That’s how we maximize our stuff and get the things done that we want and need to get done. Consistency turns your system into a super power too. In fact, books have been written about the power of habit and follow through. With this new super power you are unstoppable.
join the club
Once you join this club (the association of consistent system users) you realize you are not alone. The most successful people in the world will tell you they regularly follow a system, they are consistent, they found something that works for them and they continue to do it.
This is something you can do too, and be a success. Follow your system consistently, all the time, every day, every month, the rest of your life and you will be a success. (if you consider maximizing your stuff and getting stuff done being successful)
When you learn something like this, why wouldn’t you do it? Well, I can think of several reasons, but none of them are good ones. There is really no reason not to build your system and consistently follow it. I mean, you do want to get organized, right? You do want to get things done, right? You do want to be successful in your life, right?
the process of renewing your minimax system
Circling back to maximizing stuff… we want to do what the most successful people do – build our system and follow it consistently.
Part of our system needs to include regularly evaluating it and making slight changes or tweaking it to improve it all the time. That’s part of being consistent too. Constantly working on our system to make sure it still works for us and is getting done what we want to get done. (actually YOU are getting things done, but you are using your system to do it!)
Your minimax system is a good habit you build over time.
One thing we realize as we grow is it takes time to build a habit. No one snaps their fingers like a magician and suddenly has a system that works perfectly. We all need to adapt our behavior to the new system as it works, and adapt the system to our new behavior to maximize the usefulness of the system. That’s another key realization you’ll find as you dig into this process and get yourself started with the minimax system.
You will enjoy the success this brings you and the new found organization you have. Your home will be orderly, your thoughts will be clearer, your actions will have more purpose, you will be consistently getting projects and things done in your life you used to let go. The frustration of the past will be gone and you will bask in the light of your new found power, your super power of consistently following your system.
getting back to business
Now even with all that evangelizing for consistency and regularity we have to acknowledge the world around us. We are living in an environment that has surprises and sometimes that gets in the way of our consistency!
This post is a bit shorter than normal since I’m managing through some of that now. The world is acting on the minimaxer’s environment! haha
Next post I’ll dig in a little deeper and share some tricks you can use to help keep yourself and your systems strong, consistent…, and regular!
